Oral test practice

Practice a Realistic Mock Citizenship Interview

The civics test is oral — so practice it that way. Hear 20 questions one at a time, answer out loud, and see whether you'd pass with 12 correct.

How the mock interview works

  1. 1We pick 20 random questions from the official 128.
  2. 2Each question appears one at a time — tap Listen to hear it read aloud.
  3. 3Say your answer out loud, then mark Correct, Almost, or Wrong.
  4. 4Track your live score; reach 12 correct to pass, just like the real test.
  5. 5Missed and 'almost' questions are saved as weak questions to review.

Tips for the oral test

  • Practice saying answers out loud, not just reading them.
  • Use the slow audio to get comfortable hearing each question.
  • You do not need the exact wording — say a correct, complete answer in English.
  • Re-check answers about current officials and your state before your real interview.

Common questions

Is the real citizenship test oral?
Yes. During your naturalization interview, a USCIS officer reads civics questions aloud and you answer out loud in English. Our mock interview mirrors that format.
How many questions do I need to pass?
The officer asks up to 20 questions and you need 12 correct. They stop once you reach 12 correct (pass) or 9 incorrect.
Is there a shorter version for older applicants?
Yes. With the 65/20 rule (age 65+ and 20+ years as a permanent resident), you study a reduced set and answer 10 questions, needing 6 correct. Our mock includes a 65/20 mode.
