Special consideration

The 65/20 citizenship test

If you are 65 or older and have been a permanent resident for 20+ years, you can study a reduced set of 20 civics questions. Here is exactly which questions, how scoring works, and how to study them.

How 65/20 works

Who

65 or older and a permanent resident for 20+ years at filing.

Study set

A reduced set of 20 questions (the asterisked items on the official list).

Passing

Asked 10 questions; pass at 6 correct.

Eligibility is determined by USCIS based on your age and time as a lawful permanent resident. Civics128 does not give legal advice — confirm your eligibility at uscis.gov.

The 20 reduced-set questions

These are the 20 official questions in the 65/20 study set. Tap any to see the answer and study explanations in English, Turkish, and Spanish.

Practice the 65/20 set

In the app you can study only the 65/20 questions and take a 65/20 mock interview (10 questions, 6 to pass) that mirrors the real oral format.

Common questions

Who qualifies for the 65/20 special consideration?

Applicants who are 65 years or older and have been a lawful permanent resident (green card holder) for 20 or more years at the time of filing Form N-400 may study a reduced set of 20 civics questions instead of all 128.

How many questions are asked under 65/20?

The officer asks 10 questions from the reduced set, and you need 6 correct to pass. The questions are taken from the 20 items marked with an asterisk on the official USCIS list.

Does 65/20 change the English requirement?

The 65/20 rule concerns the civics questions you study. Other parts of the process, including any English exemptions, are separate. Confirm your specific eligibility and any exemptions with USCIS or a qualified immigration professional — Civics128 does not give legal advice.
